Social workers - all powerful?

I would like someone to give me a little advise. After a long drawn out
battle in courts where my Step daughter wishes were that she did not want to
meet me or live with her mother. We have now reached a point where
according to Social Services she now wishes to meet me. This is after a
period of 5 years of no contact with me what so ever. The CASCAFF report on
us I was not allowed to read - total piffle about me. The Solicitor never
argued any point in it. Contact for my wife with the child has been cut
from 2 hours a week to 4 hours every 3 months. Our Solicitor claims that
this is reasonable and teenagers don't want as much contact. I thought that
hours of contact could only be changed by going back to Court. "Daddy" has
appeared after an absence of 13 years. I think SS are trying to unload the
child back to him to save costs. Sorry to go on so much but the Solicitor
is a waste of space and I don't trust the SS motives or even believe a word
they tell us. The cruncher is do I meet the child or not. If I do I
suspect that we will only get a negative report that will further the other
parties involved interests. To be honest I love my wife very much but I am
begining to reach a point where I have had enough of the hassle and would
rather be on my own than going though the Courts ect. for the next 3 years.

PS Telling what the Law is or go to your Solicitor is not what I want to
know - is this a sneaky trap yes or no.

appeared after an absence of 13 years. I think SS are trying to unload the
child back to him to save costs. Sorry to go on so much but the Solicitor

Difficult to tell on rather sparse information. That's part of the reason
people say go to a (better) solicitor, you hate to give advice on a couple
of paragraphs !

How old is this child - presumably she's 14+ ? Do you want contact
with your step-child ? Does your partner want any contact with her
daughter ? Is she pressurising you for more and more legal action etc. ?
Why do you suspect you'll get a negative report - what reasons would they
have for doing this ?
Does the father want your stepchild ? Where is she now ? Is there anything
of major concern in the piffle ?

I have just wrote an extensive reply to your questions and now the computer
refuses to send it out. I just don't feel up to it tonight to re-doing the
whole thing. Just very quickly .... When you have Head Teachers ringing
into SS when they discover a child with a grubby shirt collar (Not our case
some one else). SS holding reviews without inviting the mother. Childs
school in Gloucester banning mother from attending Sports Day. Life time
ban for me from said School reason being childs wishes. I have thought
about it now. Nasty little brute of a brother who threatens people. Nasty
little G/father who touches his daughter up. A Child that lies to her
mother. Social workers who talk down to you. Do I realy need all this no,
the child can stay with her brother until she is 18. After that I won't get
SS telling me what I can and cannot do. Waiting in the rain in Cheltenham
for 5 hours untill contact with mother ends. No I must have been mad to
let this go on for so long.
